Toyin Lawani Speaks On How Hurt She Was When Bobrisky Betrayed Her

Toyin Lawani, in a recent interview with LITV’s Hero Daniel, spoke of how she was hurt when Bobrisky and others turned their backs against her.

She however said such behavior would not stop her from being nice to people

”Its a way of life. Humans would always be humans. That shouldn’t change you. If you change, that means you were never nice in the first place” she said

When asked she was disappointed when Bobrisky changed his attitude towards her after many years of being under her tutelage, the mum of two responded

”Obviously. It will because he was someone that was coming to my empire He was someone that when I said I didn’t want this relationship anymore, I felt he took it the wrong way but I had my own reasons. Because people say bad things about you should mean you should change or stop helping people”.

Obanikoro Flees To US As Fayose's Court Case Begins

Information reaching the PoliticsNGR newsdesk today reveals that Former Minister, Musliu Obanikoro has reportedly traveled to the US, a few days before the court case of Former Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose is set to commence.

Obanikoro, who was listed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to testify against Fayose left the country last Wednesday for Medical treatment an did not specify a date of return.

A former Minister of State for Defence, Obanikoro, traveled shortly after he retrieved his passports from the EFCC.

This is despite a directive by the Federal Government that 50 persons under investigations for fraud exceeding N50m are restricted from travelling.

Obanikoro, who has an American passport and a Nigerian one, reportedly met certain conditions before his passports were returned to him.

Obanikoro has been under investigation since 2016 for allegedly receiving N4.7bn from the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), in 2014.

The former minister allegedly handed over about N1.3bn to former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and another N1.3bn to the then Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Osun State in 2014, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

After Fayose was arrested by the EFCC last Tuesday, however, it was learnt that Obanikoro traveled to the US.

The former minister, who has defected to the All Progressives Congress, had declared his intention to run for the Lagos West senatorial district election but shelved his ambition at the last minute.

"I Will Contest In 2019" - Shehu Sani, To Announce New Party In 48 Hours

Senator Shehu Sani has finally released a statement on joining a new party after resigning from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC on Saturday.

Sani made headlines after announcing his resignation from the party due to disagreements arising from the party's senatorial primaries in Kaduna state.

On Sunday, Sani, in a statement via his Facebook page, revealed that he will be announcing his new party in two days. The statement read;

"This is to thank all my supporters and friends for the show of solidarity and assurances of support over my decision to exit the APC.

I assure you that in the next two days you will be informed of my new party. And be rest assured I will contest in the upcoming elections Insha Allah."

Resign your Senate positions, Akpabio tells Saraki, others

Former Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has challenged other senators who have defected from one party to another to quit their leadership positions in the chamber.
Akpabio, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, challenged other defectors to emulate him with his resignation as the Minority Leader after leaving the opposition party.
He gave the challenge while answering questions from journalists after the plenary on Wednesday.
The resignation challenge, however, appeared to be in a veiled reference to President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, who also defected from the APC to the PDP and is the only one left in the leadership of the Senate to have changed political parties.
Akpabio said, “I moved from the PDP to the APC, to make sure that this government works before the election. It should not be all about the election; it should be first about Nigeria. Let others also move in the national interest.
“I did not just move like that, I was a (Minority) Leader in the Senate. I resigned my position in order to show that, yes, I meant business. Let others who also have positions in the Senate who wish to also cross carpet from one political party to another also resign their positions and take a cue from what Godswill Akpabio did.”
The APC caucus, which had insisted on remaining the majority despite the defections, had asked Saraki to resign as Senate President or be impeached. The impeachment plot has, however,  been suspended.
Akpabio stated that the sitting arrangement in the Senate chamber must be restructured to reflect the party configuration.
He said, “There is the need for us to restructure the Senate. Behind where I sat today, my very good friend, distinguished Senator (Ubali) Shittu; it was after the little noise in the Senate that he told me that he was now in the PDP and I said ‘why are you sitting here?’ Don’t you think there is the need for us to restructure the Senate? The PDP will sit on a side, APGA will sit where they are supposed to, and the ruling party which still forms the majority will still sit where they are supposed to sit.

EFCC Obtains Court Order To Detain Fayose For Two Weeks

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has obtained a remand order from a Federal Capital Territory High Court to keep former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State for two weeks, The PUNCH can confirm.
The remand order, it was learnt, is subject to renewal which implies that Fayose could spend longer than two weeks in custody.
A reliable source said, “We have obtained a court order to hold Fayose for at least two weeks pending investigation. He could be released earlier or later than two weeks depending on the outcome of investigation.”
Fayose is under probe for allegedly receiving N1.3bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser through a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, during the build-up to the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.
However, sources within the commission revealed to The PUNCH that Fayose was also under probe for allegedly receiving kickbacks from government contractors through his aide, Abiodun Agbele, who is currently standing trial for fraud.
The EFCC source said, “We have many cases against Fayose being handled by three different teams. We cannot just arraign him immediately. We want to do a thorough job before taking him to court.”
Meanwhile, the lawyer to Fayose, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), told The PUNCH on the telephone that if the EFCC failed to release the former governor on Thursday (today), the commission would be sued for breaching Fayose’s fundamental human rights.
Ozekhome said the EFCC began investigating Fayose over two years ago and that he wondered why the agency would decide to hold him for over 24 hours.
He said the commission could not force Fayose to write any statement as he reserved the right to remain silent.
The senior advocate said any move to obtain a remand order would amount to illegality because the Supreme Court had made that clear.
The lawyer said since Fayose’s accounts had been frozen and his properties seized by the commission, there was nothing for the ex-governor to tell the EFCC as the matter was already in court.
Ozekhome added, “His lawyers will consider approaching the court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights if he is not released on Thursday. Section 35 and 36 of the constitution are clear on this.
“He is not a flight risk. He willingly submitted himself to the EFCC even earlier than the time he was supposed to come. What the EFCC is doing is nothing but media trial.
“From the way they have been chasing Fayose in the last three years, one would have expected that the EFCC would have completed its investigations and would arrest him immediately his tenure expires and charge him the next day but that is not the case.
Woman allegedly impersonates CLAM founder, defrauds church member
“They want him to write a statement by force and then use the statement against him instead of using their own evidence.”
Charge Fayose to court, PDP tells EFCC
On its part, the South-West Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday warned the EFCC not to detain Fayose for more than 48 hours before charging him to court.
In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the party in the zone, Mr Ayo Fadaka, the party said, “It is now going to 48 hours that he submitted himself to the agency and he is still being held incommunicado, this development proves that the claim by the EFCC that it is actually working in public interest is a lie. It is merely playing a partisan card as attested to by its unfortunate tweet in the immediate aftermath of the Ekiti election.
“We, therefore, hold firmly that if Fayose is not charged to court immediately to answer to whatever charges against him, then it will be very clear that the Buhari administration is merely using the EFCC to intimidate, harass and punish him in the most unjust manner.”
My govt a blessing, says Fayose…insists he didn’t take loan
Meanwhile, Fayose has said the statement credited to Governor Kayode Fayemi that his administration was an error is a mere political statement that shouldn’t be taken seriously.
He said the Ekiti people knew that his first and second administrations were never an error but rather ones that brought unparalleled blessings and development to the state.
Fayose reacted through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, in a press release issued in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.
He said, “If Fayemi said the administration of Fayose is an error, then the road projects, the High Court Complex, the Adunni Olayinka Women Development Centre, the new Governor’s Office, the Ministry of Finance building, the flyover bridge, the construction of chalets and renovation of buildings in the Government House, among others, are errors.
“The old Governor’s Office used by Governor Fayemi during his first tenure was built by Fayose and now that providence has bestowed a second term on his shoulder, he will operate from the new Governor’s Office also built by Fayose. Are these errors as well?”

Former Lawmakers Take Position On Peter Obi’s Choice As Running Mate

A 180-member caucus of former National Assembly lawmakers from the South East region has insisted that the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, was the best choice as the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

A former member of the House of Representatives and spokesman of the caucus State, Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, made the ex-lawmakers’ position known when he briefed newsmen in Abuja, on Tuesday.

He also lauded the former Vice President’s foresight in choosing Obi as his running mate.

The 180-member caucus noted with dismay the “needless and unhealthy controversies so far generated by Obi’s nomination,” which “must be nipped in the bud to stop further embarrassment.”

It, however, added that the greatest challenge facing Nigeria remains “the removal of the current retrogressive All Progressives Congress (APC) led government and the enthronement of an inclusive government committed to good governance, federal character and restructuring, which Atiku/Obi ticket represents.”

“We commend the vision and foresight of Atiku Abubakar in choosing former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi as his running mate in the 2019 presidential election.

“Our son, Peter Obi, is a befitting and worthy partner of the ticket because of his track record of performance, financial discipline and prudent management of resources.

“The entire Igbo nation at home and in the Diaspora are excited and have resolved to support and vote for Atiku/Obi massively in the 2019 polls.

“We call on Nigerians and the international community to give their support to Atiku/Obi ticket for the great prospect for Nigeria, Africa and the world.

“We therefore, plead with our brothers and sisters who may have reacted negatively to the choice of Obi to sheathe their swords and throw their weights behind the ticket in the herculean task of removing this clueless APC led government,” the caucus noted

Atiku Commiserates With Abia Pipeline Explosion Victims, Donates N10m

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has commiserated with the people and government of Abia State over the fatal pipeline explosion that killed scores of people in Umuimo and Umuaduru communities in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state.
The former vice-president equally donated a sum of N10 million to the victims, adding that the news of the fire disaster was devastating and it is particularly touching that so many lives were lost to the incident.
Atiku made this known Wednesday in Abuja in a statement by his campaign organisation.
A delegation led by his running mate and former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, Wednesday visited the affected communities in company with the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and other officials of the state.
Atiku, who was represented by Obi, remarked that the fatal incident should raise the red flag for proper safety measures along all pipeline beds across the country.
He prayed particularly for the families that lost their dear ones to the incident to have the fortitude to bear the losses.
Other dignitaries that welcomed Obi included the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Hon. Solomon Adaelu.

Is It Safe to Hold Your Pee? Is it safe?

How much urine can your bladder hold?
A healthy adult bladder can hold up to 16 ounces, or 2 cups, of urine. This is great news if you’ve only had one cup of coffee, but not so much if you find yourself on cup number three with no restroom in sight.

The bladder capacity for children under the age of 2 is about 4 ounces. For children older than 2, the capacity can be found by dividing their age by 2, then adding 6. For example, an 8-year-old child can typically hold 10 ounces of urine.

Most everyone has held in urine at one time or another. You may have wondered whether holding your pee is healthy. Here’s what you need to know.

Is it safe to hold your pee?
If your urinary system is healthy, holding your pee generally isn’t dangerous. If you’re an adult and your bladder is holding more than 2 cups of urine, you may start to feel uncomfortable.

If you have an overactive bladder, holding your pee can be an important part of bladder training. Regular bladder training may help you develop a more convenient urination schedule.

There isn’t a set guideline for how long you can safely hold your pee. It varies from person to person.

In certain circumstances, holding urine for any length of time can be dangerous. If you have any of the following conditions, holding your urine can increase your risk of infection or kidney disease:

enlarged prostate
neurogenic bladder
kidney disorders
urinary retention
Woman who are pregnant are already at an increased risk for urinary tract infections (UTIs). If you’re pregnant, holding your pee can further increase this risk.

What happens to your body when you hold your pee?
When you feel the urge to empty your bladder, the reason behind it isn’t as simple as your bladder filling up with liquid. It’s actually a pretty complex process involving many muscles, organs, and nerves that work together to tell you that it’s time to go.

When your bladder is about half full, it activates the nerves in your bladder. These nerves signal your brain to give you the urge to urinate. The brain then signals the bladder to hold on until it’s time. Holding your pee involves consciously fighting this signal to urinate.

These signals will differ from person to person. They also vary according to your age, how much liquid your bladder contains, and what time of day it is. For example, these signals decrease at night — that way you can get a full night’s rest instead of running to the restroom every few hours!

If these signals pick up, it may be the result of an underlying medical condition. Some people may develop an overactive bladder or have a bladder that’s triggered by stress.

For some women, the urge to urinate more frequently can increase after having children. This results from changes that occur during childbirth, including weakened muscles and nerve stimulation.

Can holding urine cause UTIs?
Simply holding your pee doesn’t cause a UTI. UTIs occur when bacteria make their way into the urinary tract.

If you don’t empty your bladder on a regular basis, the bacteria are more likely to sit and multiply in the bladder. This can lead to a UTI. One study discusses this risk — which can result in infection — but the association hasn’t been proven.

Your risk for a UTI may also be higher if you don’t drink adequate amounts of water. This is because your bladder won’t be full enough to send the signal to urinate. Bacteria that might already be present in the urinary system will then be able to multiply, potentially leading to an infection.

If you’re experiencing any unusual symptoms or think you have a UTI, consult your doctor.

Symptoms of a UTI include:

persistent need to urinate
burning sensation while peeing
strong-smelling urine
urine that looks cloudy
blood in the urine
pelvic pain
Check out: What causes orange urine? »

Other possible complications
Your bladder is a part of your urinary system. It’s connected through the ureters to your kidneys. In rare cases, urine can back up into the kidneys and lead to an infection or kidney damage.

Pre-existing medical conditions, such as an enlarged prostate or a neurogenic bladder from nerve damage, can lead to an involuntary retention of urine. A blockage in the passage of urine or weakened bladder muscles can prevent the bladder from emptying completely.

What if you really need to hold your pee?
When you have to go, you have to go. If you’re able to use the restroom, you should do so.

But if you’ve been advised to do any form of bladder training, or if you’re unable to access a bathroom, here are a few things you can do to take your mind off the urge to urinate:

Do a task that will actively engage your brain, such as a game or crossword puzzle.
Listen to music.
Stay sitting if you are already sitting.
Read a book.
Scroll through social media on your phone.
Keep warm, since being cold can give you the urge to urinate.

The bottom line
In most cases, holding your pee now and then isn’t harmful to your health. If, however, the urge to urinate is affecting your daily life, you should consult your doctor. Holding your pee on a regular basis can increase the risk of UTIs or other complications.

7 Best Ways To Prevent Bladder Infections

About bladder infections:
Bladder infections are the most common type of urinary tract infection (UTI). They can develop when bacteria enter the urethra and travel into the bladder.
The urethra is the tube that takes urine out of the body. Once bacteria go into the urethra, they can attach to the walls of the bladder and multiply quickly.
The resulting infection can cause uncomfortable symptoms, such as the sudden urge to urinate. It may also cause pain while urinating and abdominal cramping.
A combination of medical and home treatments may ease these symptoms. If left untreated, bladder infections can become life-threatening. This is because the infection can spread to the kidneys or blood.
Here are seven effective bladder infection remedies.

1. Drink more water:
Why it helps: Water flushes out the bacteria in your bladder. This helps get rid of the infection faster. It also dilutes your urine, so urinating may be less painful.
Urine is made of waste products from your body. Concentrated, dark urine may be more irritating and painful to pass when you have a bladder infection.
Diluted urine is lighter in color and usually doesn’t irritate as much.
Try this
Drink at least eight glasses of water per day. Limit caffeinated drinks, including coffee, tea, and soda. Caffeine can irritate your bladder even more when you don’t have an infection.

2. Frequent urination:
Why it helps: Frequent urination helps eliminate the infection by moving bacteria out of the bladder. “Holding it,” or not going to the bathroom when you need to, allows time for the bacteria to continue multiplying in the bladder.
It may also be helpful to urinate after having sex. Sexual activity can push bacteria deeper into the urethra in both men and women.
Urinating after sex may help flush bacteria away from your urinary tract. This prevents germs from settling and causing an infection.
Try this
Drink plenty of fluids so you can urinate. Go to the bathroom as soon as you can.

3. Antibiotics:
Why they help: Antibiotics kill the bacteria causing the bladder infection. If you have a UTI, you usually need medication to get rid of the germ causing the infection. Experts recommend treating UTIs with antibiotics.
If you have symptoms of a UTI, see your doctor. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), vaginal infections, and certain vaginal conditions can mimic symptoms of a UTI. So it’s essential to get the right treatment for your condition.
Try this
Call your doctor if your symptoms last longer than two days or become worse. You’ll likely need antibiotics to treat your bladder infection.
If you’re older, pregnant, or have other serious health conditions, like diabetes, call your doctor right away.
The length of treatment might vary, depending on the drug your doctor prescribes and your overall health. It’s important to take your medication for the full course, even if you feel better before it’s done. Taking the full dose will make sure all the harmful bacteria are out your system.

4. Pain relievers:
Why they help: Severe bladder infections can cause pain in the pelvic region, even when you’re not urinating. Antibiotics will treat the infection.
Keep in mind it may take a day or two before the drugs start to help. Taking pain medications may relieve abdominal cramps, back pain, and any discomfort you may feel.
Try this
Ask your doctor if it’s safe to take over-the-counter pain relievers. Taking acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB), or phenazopyridine (Pyridium) can ease pain while you wait for the antibiotics to start working.

5. Heating pads:
Why it helps: Putting low heat across your abdominal region or back may soothe the dull ache that sometimes occurs during bladder infections. This can be especially helpful when used together with your medications.
Try this
You can buy a heating pad at a local drugstore or online. Make sure to follow the directions on the package carefully to avoid burning yourself. You can also make a warm, moist compress at home. Simply soak a small towel in warm water and place it over your bladder or abdomen.

6. Appropriate dress:
Why it helps: Bacteria thrive in warm and moist environments. For women, tight jeans and other tight clothes can trap moisture in delicate areas. This creates a breeding ground for vaginal bacteria.
Try this
Wear cotton underwear, loose pants, or skirts to promote air circulation and reduce bacterial growth.

7. Cranberry juice:
Why it helps: Cranberry has been used as a natural treatment for preventing bladder infections for generations. According to recent research, cranberry juice and cranberry tablets show some promise as a remedy for women who frequently get bladder infections.
But it’s not clear whether cranberry juice really works for preventing bladder infections in the larger population.

Try this
Talk to your doctor about cranberry juice as a way to prevent bladder infections.
Preventing future bladder infections
The following lifestyle changes may help reduce the occurrence of bladder infections:
Drink six to eight glasses of water per day.
Urinate as soon as you feel the need.
Take showers instead of baths.
Wear cotton underwear.
Change your underwear daily.
Urinate before and after sexual activity.
Avoid using a diaphragm or spermicide, and change to an alternate form of birth control.
Men: Use nonspermicidal lubricated condoms.
Women: Wipe from front to back after urinating.
Women: Don’t use douches or vaginal sprays.

Your doctor may recommend preventive treatment if you’ve been experiencing recurrent bladder infections. This can consist of taking antibiotics in small daily doses to prevent or control future bladder infections.
Diet, along with the acidity of the urine, may also impact how individuals are affected by these infections.

Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis found that those whose intestinal tract produced certain substances, called aromatics, had less bacterial activity in their urine.
The production of these substances seems to be related to the types of healthy bacteria people carry in their intestinal tract. Also, urine that was low in acid had fewer bacteria, so medications that can make the urine less acidic may have a role in preventing these infections.

Outlook for people with a bladder infection
Bladder infections, including recurring infections, require medical attention. When treated promptly and effectively, the risk of serious complications is low.
Numerous researchers are also working on vaccines to protect against the most common types of bacteria that cause bladder infections. Until then, home remedies combined with medications are important steps to feeling better.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) in Older Adults

Overview:
The classic symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI) are burning pain and frequent urination. UTIs may not cause these classic symptoms in older adults. Instead, older adults, especially those with dementia, may experience behavioral symptoms such as confusion.
Although the connection between UTI and confusion has been well-established, the reason for this connection is still unknown.
Understanding urinary tract infections
The urinary tract includes:
the urethra, which is the opening that carries urine from your bladder
the ureters
the bladder
the kidneys
When bacteria enter the urethra and your immune system doesn’t fight them off, they may spread to the bladder and kidneys. The result is a UTI.
A study reports that UTIs were responsible for around 10.5 million doctor visits in the United States in 2007. Women are more likely to get UTIs than men because their urethras are shorter than men’s.
Your UTI risk increases with age. According to one study, more than one-third of all infections in people in nursing homes are UTIs. More than 10 percent of women over age 65 report having a UTI within the past year. That number increases to almost 30 percent in women over 85.
Men also tend to experience more UTIs as they age.
Symptoms of a urinary tract infection in older adults
It may be hard to figure out that an older adult has a UTI because they don’t always show classic signs. This may be due to a slower or suppressed immune response.
Classic UTI symptoms include:
  • urethral burning with urination
  • pelvic pain
  • frequent urination
  • an urgent need to urinate
  • a fever
  • chills
  • urine with an abnormal odor
When an older adult has classic UTI symptoms, they may be unable to tell you about them. That may be due to age-related issues such as dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Symptoms such as confusion may be vague and mimic other conditions.
Non-classic UTI symptoms may include:
  • incontinence
  • agitation
  • lethargy
  • falls
  • urinary retention
  • decreased mobility
  • decreased appetite
Other symptoms may occur if the infection spreads to the kidneys. These severe symptoms can include:
  • a fever
  • flushed skin
  • back pain
  • nausea
  • vomiting
What causes a urinary tract infection?
The main cause of UTIs, at any age, is usually bacteria. Escherichia coli is the primary cause, but other organisms can also cause a UTI. In older adults who use catheters or live in a nursing home or other full-time care facility, bacteria such as Enterococci and Staphylococci are more common causes.
Risk factors for urinary tract infection in older adults
Certain factors may increase the risk of UTIs in older people.
Conditions common in older adults may lead to urinary retention or neurogenic bladder. This increases the risk of UTIs. These conditions include Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and diabetes. They often require people to wear incontinence briefs. If the briefs aren’t changed regularly, an infection may occur.
Several other things put older adults at risk of developing a UTI:
  • a history of UTIs
  • dementia
  • catheter use
  • bladder incontinence
  • bowel incontinence
  • a prolapsed bladder
In females:
Postmenopausal females are at risk of UTIs because of estrogen deficiency. Estrogen may help protect the vagina and urethra from an overgrowth of E. coli. When estrogen decreases during menopause, E. coli may take over and trigger an infection.
In males:
The following may increase the risk of UTIs in males:
a bladder stone
a kidney stone
an enlarged prostate
catheter use
bacterial prostatitis, which is a chronic infection of the prostate

Diagnosing a urinary tract infection in older adults:

Vague, uncommon symptoms such as confusion make UTIs challenging to diagnose in many older adults. Once your doctor suspects a UTI, it’s easily confirmed with a simple urinalysis. Your doctor may perform a urine culture to determine the type of bacteria causing the infection and the best antibiotic to treat it.
There are home UTI tests that check urine for nitrates and leukocytes. Both are often present in UTIs. Because bacteria are often in the urine of older adults to some degree, these tests aren’t always accurate. Call your doctor if you take a home test and get a positive result.

Treating a urinary tract infection in older adults:

Antibiotics are the treatment of choice for UTIs in older adults and younger people. Your doctor may prescribe amoxicillin and nitrofurantoin (Macrobid, Macrodantin). More severe infections may require a broad-spectrum antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin (Cetraxal, Ciloxan) and levofloxacin (Levaquin).
You should start antibiotics as soon as possible and take them for the entire duration of treatment. Infection should clear up in a few days. Stopping treatment early, even if symptoms resolve, increases the risks of recurrence and antibiotic resistance.
It’s important to drink plenty of water during treatment to help flush out the remaining bacteria.
People who have two or more UTIs in 6 months or three or more UTIs in 12 months can use prophylactic antibiotics. This means taking an antibiotic every day to prevent a UTI.
Healthy older adults may want to try over-the-counter UTI pain relievers such as phenazopyridine (Azo), acetaminophen (Tylenol), or ibuprofen (Advil) to ease burning and frequent urination. A heating pad or hot water bottle may help relieve pelvic pain and back pain. Older adults who have other medical conditions shouldn’t use home remedies without first consulting a doctor.

How to prevent urinary tract infections in older adults:

It’s impossible to prevent all UTIs, but there are steps that help lessen a person’s chance of infection. They can do this by:
drinking plenty of fluids
changing incontinence briefs frequently
avoiding bladder irritants such as caffeine and alcohol
keeping the genital area clean by wiping front to back after going to the bathroom
not using douches
urinating as soon as the urge hits
Cranberry juice has shown mixed results in preventing UTIs. More research is needed.
Proper nursing home or long-term care is critical in preventing UTIs, especially for people who are immobile and unable to take care of themselves. They rely on others to keep them clean and dry. If you or a loved one is a nursing home resident, talk to management about how they manage personal hygiene. Make sure they’re aware of UTI symptoms in older adults and how to respond.

The takeaway:

A UTI can cause confusion and other symptoms of dementia in older adults. Taking preventive steps and looking out for UTI symptoms should help prevent infection. If your doctor diagnoses a UTI early, your outlook is good.

Antibiotics cure most UTIs:

Without treatment, a UTI can spread to the kidneys and the bloodstream. This may lead to a life-threatening blood infection. Severe infections may require hospitalization for intravenous antibiotics. These can take weeks to resolve.
Get medical attention if you suspect that you or a loved one has a UTI.

Drinking More Water Helps Prevent UTIs For Women

A new JAMA Internal Medicine study offers women with recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) hope of a simple preventive strategy: Drink more water.
The randomized clinical trial, published online on Oct. 1, 2018, found that of 140 premenopausal women experiencing recurrent UTIs who said they drank less than 1.5 liters of fluid daily, UTIs became significantly less frequent in women who drank more water for 12 months.
The mean number of UTIs in the study participants for the previous year was 3.3. During the 12-month study period, the mean number of UTI episodes was 1.7 in the group who drank more water compared with 3.2 in the control group.
There were 327 UTI episodes, including 111 in the water group and 216 in the control group. The mean number of antimicrobial regimens used to treat UTIs was 1.9 in the water group and 3.6 in the control group. The mean time between UTIs was 142.8 days in the water group and 84.4 days in the control group.
“Premenopausal women with low fluid intake and recurrent urinary tract infections can halve the frequency of these infections by drinking an additional 2 cups (16 oz.) of water with each meal,” said Dr. Renée M. Ward, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee.
Forget the cranberry juice
Ward says that although many women drink cranberry juice at the first signs of a UTI, a better option is to increase water intake.
Multiple studies have evaluated whether consuming cranberry juice can prevent UTIs, she adds. While some of the initial studies suggested a benefit, there have since been multiple randomized trials showing no difference between cranberry juice and a placebo.
Ward says the acidity in cranberry juice may aggravate symptoms, and the juice often has a lot of sugar that doesn’t provide a health benefit.
“Interest in this topic remains in part because cranberry proanthocyanidins inhibit bacteria from adhering to the bladder lining. However, the appropriate dose and concentration of cranberry extract for a therapeutic benefit has not been determined,” she said.
“Currently, there are no high-quality data to support the use of cranberry products/extract for the prevention or treatment of urinary tract infections,” she added.
However, Dr. G. Thomas Ruiz, OB-GYN lead at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in California, says for healthy people who don’t have diabetes, cranberry juice or cranberry pills shouldn’t pose much of a problem and may help prevent UTIs. He says, of course, keeping hydrated is helpful.
“It is making a more dilute urine, so you’re having to pee more, so it’s causing you an increased urine output… it’s basically cleansing the bladder and the urethra,” he said. “The study is basically confirming something that we already knew from that standpoint.”
Dr. Jennifer Linehan, urologist and associate professor of urology and urologic oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in California, says the study results were well-organized, but her one criticism is that studies where the participants control the modifying agent — in this case, water intake — can be hard to monitor. But the results weren’t a surprise.
“The study just confirms what we theoretically think is true, that dilution and purging of the bacteria ultimately treats the infection,” she said.
Linehan says she advises her patients to practice several preventive strategies, including taking 500 milligrams of vitamin C in the morning and at night, taking D-mannose, and staying hydrated with water. She says D-mannose works similarly to cranberry extract.
“There has been data both ways to support cranberry use and D-mannose use, as well as data that says it does not work,” she said. “The reason for that is that not everyone [has] the receptors that D-mannose and cranberry blocks, which prevents the bacteria from binding, so it doesn’t always work in everyone.”
Dr. Anne Narayan, OB-GYN at Hoag Hospital in California, said, “The beauty of the study is that its results reflect our prior commonly held, but not scientifically proven, beliefs about the association between hydration status and risk of recurrent UTI. The association is what I would have predicted anecdotally — about a 50 percent reduction in recurrence [of] UTI.”
She says those with a history of UTIs can be reassured that increased water intake is a safe, easy, and inexpensive strategy that can help prevent future UTI symptoms.
“Recurrent UTI is a common issue that causes decreased quality of life, contributes to high levels of antibiotic use, and can potentially have serious health risks, such as pyelonephritis [kidney infection],” Narayan said.
“Patients should develop strategies, such as setting water intake goals, use of smartphones to facilitate reminders, and carrying refillable water containers to help compliance with water intake, to help mitigate the consequences of recurrent UTI,” she added.

President Buhari Releases Executive Order 8

President Muhammadu Buhari has released a new Executive Order into law.

The new order is meant to regulate money laundering and tax evasion.

The President released the new Executive Order number eight, tagged “Voluntary Offshore Assets Regularization Scheme, VOARS,” on Wednesday

The new Executive Order (008) took effect from Monday, October 8, 2018, the day it was signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu, made this known in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Nigerian taxpayers who hold offshore assets and incomes are expected to, within a period of 12 months, declare voluntarily those assets and pay taxes on them by the order.

When they do this, they should expect to derive certain specified benefits.

According to the order, “any taxpayer who truthfully and voluntarily complies with the conditions of the scheme, pays a one-time levy of 35 percent on the total offshore assets or pays all outstanding taxes, penalties and interest after forensic audit of their offshore assets and income shall obtain immunity from prosecution for tax offenses and offences related to offshore assets, among others.

“Equally, failure of any defaulting taxpayer to take advantage of this scheme shall, at the expiration of the scheme result in investigation and enforcement procedures concerning offshore assets anywhere in the world pursuant to information now readily available through automatic exchange of information between Nigeria and foreign countries.”

In accordance with the new order, the Federal Government, through the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice will set up a VOARS in Switzerland for all categories of taxpayers who have defaulted in the declaration of their offshore assets, payment of taxes due and collectible subject to the fulfillment of the terms and conditions as stipulated in the order, or any other subsequent complementary regulations that follow.

To avoid the abuse of this process, the Federal Government makes clear that the “scheme is open to all persons, entities, and their intermediaries holding offshore assets and are in default of their tax obligations in any way, including those who are not already under investigation by law enforcement agencies in Nigeria or any other country and have not been charged with any crimes including theft of public funds or obtaining offshore assets through corrupt practices.”

In signing the order, President Buhari noted that under the Nigerian law, every citizen has the duty to declare his or her income and assets and pay taxes on them but regretted that this, in most instances, had not been the case.

“The sad reality is that efforts to recover these taxes from defaulters through litigation are often frustrated by the complications caused by the change in the character and nature of such assets, insufficient financial intelligence, long delays in courts, among several other reasons,” the President said.

President Buhari is optimistic that the new scheme will help to facilitate the expedient regularization of offshore assets connected to Nigeria and lead to “a new expanded tax base for the Federal Government, and also fund the Nigeria Infrastructure Fund in Switzerland.”

Nigeria needs a president who understands economy – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday harped on his argument that Nigeria requires a President with a sound knowledge of the economy to make a headway.
This, he said, was what a former German Chancellor, the late Helmut Schmidt, who was one of his international friends, told him during a discussion about African countries.
He argued that there was no way that a President with a poor knowledge of the economy could meet the needs of the citizens, adding that even Jesus Christ understood the economy.
Obasanjo spoke in Lagos at this year’s edition of Foursquare Gospel Church annual public lecture, which held at the church’s national headquarters in Yaba.
He chaired the lecture with the theme, “The trying triangle of economy, faith and politics – Looking through the eye of The lecture was delivered by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Rev. Fr. Matthew Kukah.
Commenting on the lecture, the former President said even if Kukah was right in his description of politics as a game, politics must be the most serious game created by man.
He said he agreed with Kukah that even Jesus Christ had a good knowledge of the economy.
Obasanjo said he believed that for Nigeria to get it right, the country must strike a balance among economy, faith and politics. He said, “There is no doubt at all that if we have to get it right the three (economy, faith and politics) must go together.
“One of my international friends, the late Helmut Schmidt, who was a former Chancellor of Germany – he died at the age of 96 about three years ago, I was at the burial – and he said if we in Africa have to make it, all our political leaders must have good grounding in economy.
“As a fact from Bishop Kukah, even Jesus Christ understood the economy and if you have a leader who does not understand economics, then you cannot have a leader that will satisfy the need of the people, the physical and the material needs of the people.”

Fayose's Full Statement On His Threat To Dump PDP

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, says he might dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement he issued on Monday, Fayose said he has no regret supporting Aminu Tambuwal for the party’s presidential ticket.

Former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar defeated Tambuwal to clinch the ticket.

But the governor said he had no apology teaming up with Nyesom Wike, his Rivers state counterpart, to support Tambuwal.

Wike was one of the major backers of Tambuwal in the race.

“We have no regret aligning with Governor Wike to support Governor Tambuwal for the presidential ticket and no apologies either,” Fayose said.

“We kept the party alive and strong when most men became ladies. We never compromised. If any group feels it can do it alone, we will see how far they can go.

“I may renounce my membership of the party if the need arises. In the main time, myself and others will continue with our consultations while watching the turn of event.

“We cannot but appreciate leaders that have intervened so far, but this release became necessary to avoid fresh crisis or misrepresentation.”

Grant tax waivers to tech sector, Ekeh tells FG

Ife Ogunfuwa

The Chairman of Zinox Group, Leo Ekeh, has urged the Federal Government to consider extending tax concessions to the technology sector to encourage its growth and expansion.

While commending the government and its agencies, especially the Federal Inland Revenue Service, for improving the tax revenue base in the country, Ekeh pleaded with the Federal Government to encourage prosperous economy by allowing entrepreneurs in the ICT sector to have a tax-free period of at least 10 years.

He made this appeal at the Silverbird Man of the Year Awards in Lagos on Friday.

According to him, the technology industry that is driving leading economies in the world is seriously struggling in Nigeria.

He added that in spite of the sincere efforts of the present administration, the Nigerian economy remained fatigued as a result of its predominant analogue system.

The Zinox chairman opined that millions of Nigerian youths nursed big dreams and had the capacity to thrive in a new and futuristic economy that was technology-driven, and would urgently need government support in terms of structured capital and tax concession during their gestation period.

“I plead with the Federal Government to grant tax concessions to the technology sector. Tech guys have the potential to create sustainable wealth and transform this country for good. I challenge the people in government, including the few present here such as the Deputy Senate President, distinguished senators and several governors,” he said.

Ekeh affirmed that this crop of young men and women had globally certified education and needed the right environment to exhibit their capacity.

He noted that if the country could not provide the right environment, the situation would create unfortunate ones who might resort to robbery, kidnapping and many other vices.

Ekeh, who received the Extraordinary Business Achievement Award at the event, said that globally, technology had become the driving force for the rising fortunes of many nations.

He added, “If this is granted, this country will experience, within the next five years, an army of tech billionaires whose one year tax payment shall significantly be more than our present 10-year collections. We must see the bigger picture and prepare for tomorrow instead of frustrating people at incubation period. The IT companies in today’s Nigeria are the poorest corporates and slowly disappearing – a situation which I find very unfortunate.

“Tech kids are restless and need time to develop, experiment and deliver products into the market successfully. Most times, you succeed with one out of the 30 you invested money and time in. It takes time to stabilise in a country that is not digitally-driven. I am in a better position to tell this story because I have been in the same sector for over 30 years. The sector is full of hype because it is a youth-dominated profession and when the FIRS personnel read, they come to the conclusion that you are a multi-billionaire and then go after your company.”

Ekeh extended his appreciation to the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, and his team, for protecting the economy from failure during the recent recession.

He called on the CBN governor to intervene in the IT sector more than he had done in the agriculture sector by extending support to millions of young Nigerians yearning for an opportunity to transform the fortunes of the country.

Facebook Introduce AI video-calling device ‘Portal’

Facebook on Monday launched a range of AI-powered video-calling devices, a strategic revolution for the social network giant which is aiming for a slice of the smart speaker market that is currently dominated by Amazon and Google.
“It’s been a big shift for the company,” Facebook’s vice president of consumer hardware Andrew Bosworth told AFP before the launch of “Portal”.

“We’ve seen a rise of video calling, on both Messenger and WhatsApp — it has been a tremendous trend,” he said.

But the launch of a product putting a camera into people’s homes is likely to raise privacy issues for the social media giant, which has suffered several major data breaches this year involving tens of millions of user accounts.

The device, which will be available for pre-order in the United States from Monday, is designed to allow users to make video calls at home without having to stand immediately in front of the screen or hold a phone at arm’s length.

Although the social media giant acquired virtual reality headset manufacturer Oculus in 2014, this is the first time it has developed a consumer hardware product in-house.

“At some point, we realised that if we want to continue to advance our mission, the hardware we’re dealing with… is limiting, and so we find ourselves building our own hardware to try and accomplish that mission,” Bosworth said.

– ‘Hey Portal’ –

Offering hands-free voice control, Portal comes in two sizes, a 10-inch screen which retails at $199 (173 euros) and a 15-inch version will go for $349. And to start the call, all it takes is: “Hey Portal.”

During calls, it can also play music on Spotify or videos from Facebook Watch, as well as tell children stories via augmented effects app Story Time.

And it also comes bundled with Amazon’s voice interface “Alexa”, enabling users to shop or control household appliances.

During a conversation, the integrated camera can automatically zoom out to include a second person, or be instructed to follow a certain individual as they walk around, even picking out their voice over background noise.

But Facebook has moved to quickly allay security fears, saying that by keeping the processes on the actual device rather than in the cloud, the risk of hacking is lower than with a smartphone or computer.

Calls will be encrypted, and the AI technology runs locally on Portal, not on Facebook servers, with it only sending voice commands to the servers after hearing, “Hey Portal”.

The camera can be blocked by a cover and the device has a button for disabling both the lens and the microphone.

Full Text Of Buhari's Acceptance Speech As 2019 APC Presidential Candidate

President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria's incumbent President was chosen as the flag bearer of the ruling Party, The All Progressives Congress.
The President on his acceptance by members of his great party gave a speech which was made available to Naija Politico and reproduced below

ACCEPTANCE SPEECH BY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AND PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS IN THE 2019 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Chairman and members of the Convention Committee for planning and conducting this convention. The same appreciation goes to the chairmen of National and State Executive Committees of our party. Thank you very much for doing a difficult job well.

I would like to pay tribute to Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande the first chairman of our great Party and to Chief John Oyegun who led the party until this year and all the APC Governors.

The result of the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress this time is different because I am the only candidate. I thank all other eligible candidates who deferred to me in the interest of our party unity and over-all national stability.

Fellow party members, it is with a deep sense of humility that I stand before you today to accept the nomination of our party, the All Progressives Congress to be its candidate and flag-bearer in the 2019 presidential elections.

As I stand today before you, there is no honour greater than the confidence given to me by all of you when you affirmed my nomination. I thank you for your support. I thank you for your guidance. I thank you for staying committed to the CHANGE agenda.

I accept this honour as a tribute and mark of confidence to carry the responsibility as we all join hands to continue the good work of the APC government to 2023 and beyond.

We are very proud of our record from 2015 to date:

We have arrested and checked the slide to anarchy on the security and economic fronts.

Boko Haram is reduced to dastardly attacks on soft targets. Normalcy has returned to much of North East and neighbouring North West states.

Our currency has stabilised. Our reserves are now $44 billion, a lot higher than we had in 2015.

Power generation capacity has reached 8,000 megawatts against less than 4,600 when we came into office. As we invest in new power generation infrastructure we are strenuously working to address the legacy deficiencies and challenges of transmission and distribution networks across the country.

We are executing Independent Power Projects in 9 Federal Universities to deliver uninterrupted power supply and we intend to expand to a total of 37 Universities

We have revived most of our capacity to produce fertilisers locally.

The Government through its Anchor Borrowers Programme and other incentives has empowered more than 2 million farmers to go back to the land. We now produce 80% of our rice requirements. Many farmers who nearly lost hope are now millionaires.

We have introduced primary school feeding programmes to encourage attendance and enrolment. We also have introduced the conditional cash transfer to help small and medium businesses, the men, the women and young people who drive our economy.

We have repaired and are repairing major arterial roads and starting major railway projects with the aim of linking the 36 states with efficient road and rail transportation systems.

We are attacking corruption head-on. With international support we are recovering Nigerian stolen assets and applying them to infrastructural developments.

Today the corrupt are facing the wrath of law and leakages have been generally blocked.

Mr. Chairman, Your Excellencies, Members of the APC.

We can be proud of our achievements. CHANGE has come. Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow Nigerians, think how much PDP Governments earned between 1999 to 2015. Think what they did with it.

Infrastructure down!

Security down! 18 local governments of Nigeria under control of a hostile army of insurgents,

Reserves depleted!

Bankruptcy around the corner.

What did they do with your money?

Internationally, Nigeria is now respected. My inter-action with foreign heads of state and government has been very encouraging. The international community is very supportive of our efforts to put our country in order.

Ladies and gentlemen, Members of APC. I thank you deeply for your support and confidence in me. I will not let you or the people of Nigeria down.

On to victory in 2019!
Long live APC!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Thank you and God bless you all.

MEN AND VOWS

31:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 31:2 Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

31:3 And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian.

31:4 Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

31:5 So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

31:6 And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.

31:7 And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

31:8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

31:9 And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

31:10 And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.

31:11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.

31:12 And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

31:13 And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.

31:14 And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

31:15 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? 31:16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

31:17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

31:18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

31:19 And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.

31:20 And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats' hair, and all things made of wood.

31:21 And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses; 31:22 Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead, 31:23 Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

31:24 And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.

31:25 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 31:26 Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation: 31:27 And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation: 31:28 And levy a tribute unto the Lord of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep: 31:29 Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the LORD.

31:30 And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.

31:31 And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.

31:32 And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep, 31:33 And threescore and twelve thousand beeves, 31:34 And threescore and one thousand asses, 31:35 And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.

31:36 And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep: 31:37 And the LORD's tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.

31:38 And the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the LORD's tribute was threescore and twelve.

31:39 And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the LORD's tribute was threescore and one.

31:40 And the persons were sixteen thousand; of which the LORD's tribute was thirty and two persons.

31:41 And Moses gave the tribute, which was the LORD's heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses.

31:42 And of the children of Israel's half, which Moses divided from the men that warred, 31:43 (Now the half that pertained unto the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep, 31:44 And thirty and six thousand beeves, 31:45 And thirty thousand asses and five hundred, 31:46 And sixteen thousand persons;) 31:47 Even of the children of Israel's half, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.

31:48 And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses: 31:49 And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.

31:50 We have therefore brought an oblation for the LORD, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the LORD.

31:51 And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.

31:52 And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the LORD, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.

31:53 (For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.) 31:54 And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the LORD.

32:1 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle; 32:2 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying, 32:3 Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon, 32:4 Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle: 32:5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.

32:6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? 32:7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them? 32:8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

32:9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

32:10 And the LORD's anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying, 32:11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: 32:12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

32:13 And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

32:14 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

32:15 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

32:16 And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones: 32:17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

32:18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

32:19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.

32:20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war, 32:21 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him, 32:22 And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.

32:23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

32:24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.

32:25 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.

32:26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead: 32:27 But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord saith.

32:28 So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel: 32:29 And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession: 32:30 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

32:31 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.

32:32 We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours.

32:33 And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.

32:34 And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer, 32:35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah, 32:36 And Bethnimrah, and Bethharan, fenced cities: and folds for sheep.

32:37 And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim, 32:38 And Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.

32:39 And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it.

32:40 And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

32:41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havothjair.

32:42 And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

33:2 And Moses wrote their goings out according to their journeys by the commandment of the LORD: and these are their journeys according to their goings out.

33:3 And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the morrow after the passover the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians.

33:25 And they removed from Haradah, and pitched in Makheloth.

33:26 And they removed from Makheloth, and encamped at Tahath.

33:27 And they departed from Tahath, and pitched at Tarah.

33:28 And they removed from Tarah, and pitched in Mithcah.

33:29 And they went from Mithcah, and pitched in Hashmonah.

33:30 And they departed from Hashmonah, and encamped at Moseroth.

33:31 And they departed from Moseroth, and pitched in Benejaakan.

33:32 And they removed from Benejaakan, and encamped at Horhagidgad.

33:33 And they went from Horhagidgad, and pitched in Jotbathah.

33:37 And they removed from Kadesh, and pitched in mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom.

33:38 And Aaron the priest went up into mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month.

33:39 And Aaron was an hundred and twenty and three years old when he died in mount Hor.

33:48 And they departed from the mountains of Abarim, and pitched in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.

33:49 And they pitched by Jordan, from Bethjesimoth even unto Abelshittim in the plains of Moab.

33:50 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying, 33:51 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan; 33:52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places: 33:53 And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

33:54 And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man's inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit.

33:55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

33:56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

34:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 34:2 Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land of Canaan; (this is the land that shall fall unto you for an inheritance, even the land of Canaan with the coasts thereof:) 34:3 Then your south quarter shall be from the wilderness of Zin along by the coast of Edom, and your south border shall be the outmost coast of the salt sea eastward: 34:4 And your border shall turn from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim, and pass on to Zin: and the going forth thereof shall be from the south to Kadeshbarnea, and shall go on to Hazaraddar, and pass on to Azmon: 34:5 And the border shall fetch a compass from Azmon unto the river of Egypt, and the goings out of it shall be at the sea.

34:6 And as for the western border, ye shall even have the great sea for a border: this shall be your west border.

34:7 And this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall point out for you mount Hor: 34:8 From mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath; and the goings forth of the border shall be to Zedad: 34:9 And the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Hazarenan: this shall be your north border.

34:10 And ye shall point out your east border from Hazarenan to Shepham: 34:11 And the coast shall go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain; and the border shall descend, and shall reach unto the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward: 34:12 And the border shall go down to Jordan, and the goings out of it shall be at the salt sea: this shall be your land with the coasts thereof round about.

34:13 And Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying, This is the land which ye shall inherit by lot, which the LORD commanded to give unto the nine tribes, and to the half tribe: 34:14 For the tribe of the children of Reuben according to the house of their fathers, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to the house of their fathers, have received their inheritance; and half the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance: 34:15 The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side Jordan near Jericho eastward, toward the sunrising.

34:16 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 34:17 These are the names of the men which shall divide the land unto you: Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun.

34:18 And ye shall take one prince of every tribe, to divide the land by inheritance.

34:19 And the names of the men are these: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

34:20 And of the tribe of the children of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud.

34:21 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon.

34:22 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Dan, Bukki the son of Jogli.

34:23 The prince of the children of Joseph, for the tribe of the children of Manasseh, Hanniel the son of Ephod.

34:24 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Ephraim, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan.

34:25 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Zebulun, Elizaphan the son of Parnach.

34:26 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Issachar, Paltiel the son of Azzan.

34:27 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Asher, Ahihud the son of Shelomi.

34:28 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Naphtali, Pedahel the son of Ammihud.

34:29 These are they whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance unto the children of Israel in the land of Canaan.

35:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying, 35:2 Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.

35:3 And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

35:4 And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.

35:5 And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.

35:6 And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

35:7 So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.

35:8 And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.

35:9 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 35:10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan; 35:11 Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.

35:12 And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.

35:13 And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.

35:14 Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.

35:15 These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.

35:16 And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

35:17 And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

35:18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

35:19 The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

35:20 But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die; 35:21 Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.

35:22 But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait, 35:23 Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm: 35:24 Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments: 35:25 And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

35:26 But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled; 35:27 And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood: 35:28 Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

35:29 So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

35:30 Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.

35:31 Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.

35:32 And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

35:33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

35:34 Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

36:1 And the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spake before Moses, and before the princes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel: 36:2 And they said, The LORD commanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel: and my lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters.

36:3 And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.

36:4 And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.

36:5 And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the LORD, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph hath said well.

36:6 This is the thing which the LORD doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry to whom they think best; only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry.

36:7 So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.

36:8 And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may enjoy every man the inheritance of his fathers.

36:9 Neither shall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; but every one of the tribes of the children of Israel shall keep himself to his own inheritance.

36:10 Even as the LORD commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad: 36:11 For Mahlah, Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married unto their father's brothers' sons: 36:12 And they were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.

36:13 These are the commandments and the judgments, which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.
