Super Eagles face a setback
Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, has been ruled out of Thursday’s friendly against Senegal in London following an injury. The Wolverhampton Wanderers of England goalkeeper was missing in the team’s final training session due to a knock. With Ikeme out injured, the Super Eagles’ gaffer, Gernot Rohr, drafted in relatively unknown goalkeeper, Tope Okeowo of Peckham All Stars, as a replacement. It is very likely that Okeowo will man the goal for Nigeria as the other invited goalkeepers, Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa, were still being expected as at Wednesday night. NAN also reports that Okeowo, a former Golden Eaglets goalkeeper, is Peckham Town’s first choice. Okeowo had been at Peckham Town for many years, helping his team get promotion from Division Two to Division One in their first season in the Kent County League. He produced some outstanding performances in 2015/2016 season which saw him help his team win promotion into the Premier Division of the Kent County League. Nigeria will take on Senegal at the Hive Stadium, Barnet FC’s ground on Thursday from 8 p.m. before wrapping up their schedule against Burkina Faso next week Monday to round up their two-game international friendly.
Saraki, opposition within APC – APC lawmaker
A member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly representing Jada/Mbulo Constituency, Alhaji Alhassan Umar, has said the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, is not only a threat to the future of their party, the All Progressive Congress, but has also formed a strong opposition within the party.
Umar, who spoke to journalists on Tuesday in Yola, alleged that Saraki had formulated multiple plans to frustrate the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to the detriment of Nigerians.
The lawmaker pointed out that the unnecessary crisis over the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was a grand design by Saraki to frustrate the war against corruption by the present administration.
He said: “Senate President Bukola Saraki is an opposition within APC.

We Failed To Learn From Biafran War — Ekweremadu
Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has traced the humanitarian crisis in the North-East to the nation’s failure to learn lessons from the civil war to build her internal capacity and mechanisms for managing such situations.
He also affirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to bringing succour to parts of the country facing humanitarian challenges.
Ekweremadu spoke when he received a delegation from the Princess Modupe Ozolua-led Empower 54, which paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
He observed that as a country that had gone through armed conflict and humanitarian crises, Nigeria ought to have learnt from such experiences and strengthened her capacity to build peace and manage humanitarian challenges.
He said: “As a young boy in the 1960s, I experienced firsthand the humanitarian crisis in the eastern part of Nigeria occasioned by the Biafran war. Then, we had to depend on international donors and humanitarian organisations.
“Unfortunately, from the developments so far in the North East, it is clear that, like virtually every other thing in our history, we did not learn from that experience. We remain heavily dependent on humanitarian organisations and donors.
“If we had learnt from the experience of the civil war, Nigeria would have needed little or no external support. We would have built our internal capacity and mechanisms to manage the North East situation”.
Ekweremadu, however, commended the Empower 54 for its humanitarian outreach, particularly its efforts to have some of its supplies manufactured in Nigeria.
In a related development, the leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Comrade Uchenna Madu, yesterday, said no amount of pressure would make his group and other pro-Biafra groups quit their struggle for the actualisation of an independent state of Biafra.
Madu, in an interview with journalists in Aba, said the agitation for Biafra had come a long way such that the groups behind it would not relent until their dream was actualised.
Asked whether the group would relent in its agitation now that it appeared that the Federal Government had started addressing infrastructural issues in the South-East, the MASSOB leader said, “We can’t stop, we have passed that point. Some people think that the agitation for the Sovereign State of Biafra was because of marginalisation or infrastructural decay in the South-East. No. We have passed that stage.
“We want Biafra, not because our roads are bad, not because Igbo man has not become the President of the country. We want Biafra not because of negligence of our area, but we want Biafra because we are Biafrans; we are created Biafrans and we have to exhibit it in all sense of responsibility. We want to restore the ancient kingdom of Biafra as it was before the 1914 amalgamation of Northern and Southern Protectorate.”
Gunners Boss under pressure
The Gunners boss came under ever increasing pressure for his position after he saw his side crash to a 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in Saturday's Premier League match at the Hawthorns.
The result is the fourth loss in the side's last five league games and comes on the back of a recent 10-2 humiliation to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
Speaking to Sky Sports 1 after the defeat to the Baggies, Wenger said: "I know what I will do in my future and will let you know soon. You will see."
The 67-year-old added of the encounter against West Brom, "It was a typical Premier League game nowadays where there is a team with a lot of the ball and a team who defends very well and plays on the counter-attack and set-pieces.
"Even though it is a disappointing result, everybody goes away now (for the international break) to recover and prepare well."

We've caused Chelsea problems in the past: Stoke manager Mark Hughes
The Potters are unbeaten in their last eight home Premier League games. Their last encounter in front of their own fans saw them beat Middlesbrough 2-0, before earning a point with a 0-0 draw at Manchester City in their most recent tie.
Speaking ahead of the game, Stoke manager Mark Hughes told a press conference: "We've caused them problems in the past, and we're on the back of a really good performance against Man City, who are clearly one of the teams close to Chelsea's level. We've shown that we can acquit ourselves strongly against these teams."
The Blues are unbeaten in their last 11 fixtures across all competitions and have won four games on the trot, eliminating Manchester United from the FA Cup on Monday with a 1-0 result at home.
Manager Antonio Conte's men enjoy a 10-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings with 11 games left in the season, while Stoke are ninth, 30 points adrift.
Chelsea defender David Luiz told the club's official website that Conte has urged his players to remain focused ahead of the Stoke clash as the season enters its most important stage.
"He’s doing a great job but didn’t finish yet and tells us we have to keep focus," said Luiz.
In team news, Stoke will miss defender Glen Johnson due to a shoulder injury, but Marko Arnautovic has recovered from illness in time for the clash. Mame Biram Diouf and Xherdan Shaqiri are available after doubts surrounding their fitness.
Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses is unlikely to feature against Stoke after he picked up, what seemed to be a calf strain against Manchester United. The rest of the squad should be ready for selection.

Conte had been using the FA Cup to give his fringe players a run out, but with Manchester United pitching up to Stamford Bridge on Monday, the Italian decided to field his strongest eleven.
This meant Terry and his centre-back partner Kurt Zouma warmed the bench while Asmir Begovic was pushed out of the eleven by No.1 stopper Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea youngster Nathan Ake did not even make the matchday squad, leaving several players angry with Conte’s snub.

Rejection means Magu Immediately Ceases to act as EFCC Chairman – Ozekhome.
Buhari can no longer re-present Magu’s name. Constitutional Lawyer and Human Rights Activists, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), has said the second rejection by the Senate to consider Acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu for confirmation has put the final nail on his nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari and he ceases to act in that capacity. Magu Speaking to Vanguard in a statement while throwing light on ‘The Legal and Moral Issues of the Second and Final Rejection of Confirmation of Magu as EFCC Chairman’, Ozekhome said that Ibrahim Magu has henceforth ceased to be the Chairman of the EFCC going by the powers vested on the Senate by the constitution. He said, “Going by sections 2(1) and 2(3) of the EFCC Act, he ceases to be the Executive Chairman. Having left his “acting” position during his proposal to the Senate, he also loses his “acting” capacity. It is simply a bad case. “The Senate is the only repository of confirmatory powers of the EFCC Chairman. And it has spoken. That is the beauty of the doctrine of separation of powers between the three Arms of government, the Executive, the legislature and the judiciary, as ably propounded by Baron de Montesquieu in 1748. “Magu’s problem is self-inflicted from within the APC ruling party itself that is also not comfortable with the way he has carried on with his functions”. “The worm that kills the maize is right inside the maize. His tenure should have nothing to do with efficiency and effectiveness alone, which he apparently possesses. “The role of the number one anti-Corruption Czar should be more. It should also embody the finest and most edifying virtues of nobility in terms of observance of citizens’ fundamental rights and the all-important rule of law concept. “The anti- corruption war has so far been fought without a human face, in the most crude, most bizarre, most discriminatory and most degrading manner that diminishes the humanity and respectability of Nigerians and bring us back into the Hobesian state of nature where life was short, nasty and brutish. “The anti-corruption fight has been fought in the most opaque, selective, bestial and humiliating manner, devoid of any scintilla or modicum of decency and respect for our collective and individual civil liberties and freedoms. “It has all but reduced Nigeria to a one Party state, with everyone decamping to APC, because once you do that, you are immediately and automatically protected from the inquisition of EFCC and like Naaman the leper who was dipped into River Jordan seven times and became cleansed of his leprosy, such a decampee is cleansed of his political leprosy and antecedental criminality. “EFCC has been acting outside of and above the Law, contrary to its motto, using the most detestable, unorthodox, arm-twisting and extra- legal tactics to intimidate, humiliate and bamboozle hapless opponents, critics of Government, opposition elements and critical voices of reason and dissension. “It should never be as bad as this. Buhari can no longer re-present Magu’s name again, because of the serious moral burden, ethical challenges and legal impediments thus imposed on him with this second definitive rejection, this time after a full screening. “Re-presenting his name will raise more questions than answers as to why the insistence on One man. This is unlike the first instance when Senate merely turned him down without any screening. “That it was done shortly after the celebrated arrival of President Buhari from his medical vacation makes it more interesting and more significant as it underlines the independence of the Legislature, the Senate. “It is high time for PMB to look for another competent Nigerian out of about 180 million people in population. After all, there was once a Nuhu Ribadu, a Mrs. Waziri and a Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde. “Like the cliché goes, soldiers go, soldiers come, and Barracks remain.”

Pope Francis - It's Better To Be Atheist Than To Be A Hypocritical Catholic
Its rather controversial but Pope Francis has delivered another
criticism of some members of his own church, suggesting it was better to
be an atheist than one of many Catholics who he said live a
hypocritical life.
In improvised comments in the sermon of his private morning mass in his residence, he said: “It is a scandal to say one thing and do another. That is a double life. “There are those who say, ‘I am very Catholic, I always go to mass, I belong to this and that association’,” the head of the 1.2 billion-member Roman Catholic church said, according to a Vatican Radio transcript.
In Pope's Words:
Some of these people should also say “‘my life is not Christian, I don’t pay my employees proper salaries, I exploit people, I do dirty business, I launder money, [I lead] a double life’.” “There are many Catholics who are like this and they cause scandal,” he said. “How many times have we all heard people say ‘if that person is a Catholic, it is better to be an atheist’.”
Since his election in 2013, Francis has often told Catholics, both priests and lay people, to practise what their religion preaches.
In his often impromptu sermons, he has condemned S3@.x:’ual abuse of children by priests as being tantamount to a “satanic mass”, said Catholics in the mafia excommunicate themselves, and told his own cardinals to not act “as if they were princes”.
Less than two months after his election, he said Christians should see atheists as good people if they do good.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the twenty month jinx by Fani-Kayode
Permit me to begin this contribution with an interesting and historically accurate observation made by the Vanguard Newspaper on 3rd February 2015. They wrote, “Between 1983 and 1985, Peter Onu of Nigeria was Acting Secretary-General of the OAU. At the 1985 Summit in Addis Ababa, statesmen like Julius Nyerere, President of Tanzania, lobbied for his election as substantive Secretary-General. However, there was a major stumbling block to Peter Onu’s candidature: his Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, was campaigning against him. Buhari claimed: “This generation of Nigerians and indeed future generations have no other country than Nigeria.” But when the crunch came, his allegiance to Nigeria disappeared. In the election of the OAU Secretary-General in 1985, Buhari voted against Nigeria and for Niger instead. He secured the election of Ide Oumarou, a Fulani man from Niger; as opposed to an Igbo man from Nigeria. By so doing, Buhari became the first and only Head of State in the history of modern international relations to vote against his country in favour of his tribe”.
Graphically illustrated and succinctly put, that is the mindset of the quintessential General Muhamnadu Buhari for you. Yet even in his triumphs and all his glory he has suffered immense pain and his challenges and travails are legion. Consider the following. In 1983 he toppled the much-loved democratically-elected civilian President Shehu Shagari in a military coup and became Head of State. He ruled with an iron fist for exactly 20 months (31st Dec 1983 – 27th August 1985) after which he himself was overthrown in another military coup led by his erstwhile and again much-loved Chief of Army Staff, General Ibrahim Babangida. Thereafter he was detained for three years in Benin city. Exactly 30 years after he was removed from power in 2015 he was “elected” civilian President on the platform of the APC. Once again he presided over the affairs of our country for another 20 months (29th May 2015 – 19th January 2017) until he was struck by an undisclosed yet strange and debilitating illness, fell gravely ill, was compelled to formally transmit his presidential powers to the Vice President, was rushed to the United Kingdom where, up until today, he has remained incommunicado and on “indefinite medical leave”. Since then the Nigerian people have not heard his voice or seen him other than being fed with regular diets of pictures of him receiving his close political associates who urge us on a daily basis that he is “hale and hearty” and “getting much better”. Sounds familiar? Let us go back a bit. The first time Buhari came to power he unleashed terror on the people in the name of fighting corruption and thousands of innocent and decent men and women were herded into prisons and detention centres all over the country. None of them were given fair trials and all were subjected to a level of humiliation and barbarity that had never been witnessed before in peacetime in our entire history. Criminal laws were applied retroactively and people were executed and hanged based on the application of those laws. Many were locked up, prosecuted and jailed simply for writing and speaking the truth as long as that truth embarrassed or exposed the wickedness or corruption of members of his Federal Military Government. Many politicians, dissidents, writers, journalists, businessmen and human rights activists were locked up in inhuman conditions and underground dungeons and consequently fell chronically ill and most of them never recovered from the ordeal. Many civilians were tried before military courts and, without any credible evidence, jailed for, in many cases, hundreds of years. On the economic front a chronic recession was ushered into the affairs of our nation and people suffered hunger, poverty, deprivation and starvation. Thankfully 20 months later it all came crashing, he was removed from power and sanity was restored. The second time he came to power he did precisely the same thing as the first only this time it was worse because he clothed his … in the seeming legitimacy of civil rule and in a supposedly democratic setting where the rule of law, at least on paper, was meant to prevail. Yet the modus operandi, intention, style and objectives were still the same: the decimation of all opposition forces by waging a bogus, vicious and selective so-called “anti-corruption war” which was fuelled and propelled by hate, spite, vindictiveness, pettiness, sensational media trials and the abuse of power and which resulted in the humiliation, denigration, persecution, demonisation, violation of human rights and incarceration of most of his critics and political opponents. Again his actions and policies resulted in the premature death and destruction of innocent and helpless men and women in some cases and in the reckless and wholesale slaughter of defenceless civilians by his security forces in others. Once again on the economic front, just as he had done thirty years earlier, he ushered in a period of unprecedented suffering, hunger, hardship, economic recession, poverty and starvation. And yet again, 20 months later it all came crashing down, he was struck down by the arrow of affliction, he was forced to relinquish power and he was rushed to a London hospital for help and medical attention. It was 20 months the first time and it is 20 months the second. One must pause here and ponder on the circumstances. Is there not more to this than meets the eye? Are there any lessons to be drawn from all this? Is God not trying to tell him and indeed all of us something? Is this not the finger of God? Does the killing, locking up, humiliation and persecution of innocent souls and the sadistic destruction of the lives and families of others not come with a heavy price? Buhari did all that when he came to power in 1983 in the name of fighting corruption and he did again when he was “elected” in 2015. Yet the Alpha and the Omega and He that is known as the Ancient of Days neither slumbers nor sleeps and neither does He abandon His own. His word says “touch not my annointed and do my Prophets no harm”. The Lord of Hosts is not a man: He does not lie and neither does He repent. He is faithful and true and He ALWAYS honors His word. Each time the enemy does his worst, the Lord of the Universe does His best and proceeds to display His awesome sovereingty and power. This is especially so when the leaders and Princes of this world stand against or seek to destroy His annointed. God rules in the affairs of men and He alone forges the destiny of nations. The kingdoms of the earth are like a drop of water in the oceans before Him. And He alone lifts us up, brings us down and determines the length of our days. The bottom line is this: the Lord is against President Buhari and it is time for him and his evil party to stand down and let go. Our country needs deliverance from the “broomstick” and “chanji” spirit of the APC. In 2019 we are not going to have an election in this nation but instead we will have an exorcism. By God’s grace we will pray them out of power and restore the fortunes of our beleagured and suffering people. In normal countries only witches and wizards fly around in the air on broomsticks chanting “change” but in Nigeria the APC Federal Government has sold our birthright, squandered our good fortunes, traded in our destiny, mesmerised our people, decimated our economy and dedicated our nation to the forces of darkness. And their “great and wonderful works” speak for themselves. Permit me to share just three examples of those “wonderful works” with you here. The first is the fact that the naira, at 5 naira to 1 US dollar, is not only at the lowest it has ever been in its entire history but has now also become one of the three most worthless currencies on the African continent after Zimbabwe and Somalia. The second is the fact that UNICEF has just announced that Nigeria is one of four countries in the world today (the others being Somalia, Southern Sudan and Yemen) in which 1.4 million people are suffering from starvation. The third is the fact that more Christians are being slaughtered in Nigeria today than at any other time in our history and that the religious, regional and ethnic divide that exists in our nation, with its attendant hate, bitterness, violence and bad blood, is more pronounced today than it has ever been before. And all these “wonderful works” were achieved in the space of one year and eight months. That must be a world record in terms of the time-span for deterioration and disaster. Lest I forget permit me to add just one more “wonderful work”. President Buhari is supposedly fighting a war against corruption yet after his lawyer gave 500,000 naira to a judge before whom he (Buhari) had a case it was described as a “gift” as opposed to a bribe. What a wonderful way to fight corruption that is but thankfully God is watching. We are sitting on a keg of gunpowder even though we hate to admit or acknowledge it. I guess that is “change” for you and these are the fruits of the witchcraft brew called “chanji”. Yet the truth is that all hope is not lost and even if they have one million warlocks, witches, dark angels, sorcerers, witchdoctors, marabouts, pagans priests and Ali Modu Sheriffs working for them together with the army, the navy, the police, the EFCC, the DSS, Boko Haram, Miyetti Allah and the Fulani militias and herdsmen, one way or the other, by 2019 at the latest, they will all leave power. God wills it and so it shall be. The Holy Bible says, “who art thou O man? Thou art as the grass that withers, thou art as the flower that fadeth: a man that is borne of woman that is today and tomorrow is no more”. We must all, no matter how big or powerful, humble ourselves before God because He alone makes kings weep in their closets and causes emperors and tyrants to tremble in their wardrobes and wet their beds. As regards his 20 year jinx, perhaps President Muhammadu Buhari will return safely to Nigeria and perhaps he will not: only God knows. Whichever way it goes the Lord has made His point. All praise, all glory, all honor be unto His holy name forever. Shalom. By Femi Fani-Kayode

Breaking: Again Buhari speaks, says I am feeling better
By AbdulSalam Muhammad KANO – President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his appreciation to Nigerians for their goodwill and prayers, saying his condition has improved. Buhari, who spoke for about three minutes in vernacular, on phone, with Governor Ganduje, while a prayer session was going on at Africa House, Government House, Kano, said he is feeling better.
Buhari said “Alhamdulillah (all praise be to Allah)”, he said when Ganduje inquired “how are you feeling now Your Excellency? During the prayer session, which was broadcast live by local radio stations in Kano, Ganduje told the President that Islamic scholars and Imams in Kano were praying for his speedy recovery. To this, the President remarked “Maa shaa Allah”, meaning, “God willed it”, an Arabic phrase used to show appreciation for a person or happening and is evoked upon hearing good news. He expressed the hope that Allah will accept the prayers and asked the governor to extend his best wishes to the Islamic scholars. Governor Ganduje, who was highly elated, remarked that from the voice of the President, his health has greatly improved expressing the hope that the Nigerian leader would get well soon. The governor enjoined Nigerians to continue to pray for the well-being of the President and the success of his administration. “We prayed for Buhari to win and he won. It is now mandatory on us to rally round his government and pray for his wellbeing”, Ganduje remarked. The prayers session, which brought together about 300 Imams and Islamic leaders from all Islamic denominations across the state was attended by the state Deputy governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, the Chief Imam of Kano, Professor M.S. Zahraddeen the state Commissioner of Police, Rabi’u Yusuf legislators and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’abba.
Bad News For Guiders As MMM Announces New Strategy.
The latest announcement from MMM Nigeria was released on Wednesday, February 22.
Participants are already saying the message is a confirmation that the MMM admin has been listening to their complaints and suggestions.
The new message reads:
“You constantly reproach us stating we don’t listen to your opinions however we really do. We try to carry out the most reasonable and efficient suggestions immediately.
Particularly, in accordance with your suggestions, we will soon take the following measures:
We will stop the growth of confirmed Mavros acquired before the 1st of January 2017.
We will freeze the bonuses received before the 1st of January 2017 (so that limited withdrawal of Mavro-2016 will include only contributions, not bonuses).
We will introduce a new rule according to which the withdrawal amount cannot exceed triple amount of the provided help (so, GH cannot exceed PH more than in 3 times).
Many participants and guiders withdraw bonuses in such big amounts without PH that it threatens the stability of the whole System. (We don’t agree, however we will accept preferences of the majority. With this rule, you can’t withdraw only bonuses without providing help.
Therefore, keep on sending us your suggestions. We will take them into account (At least, we will try).”
Some participants are happy about the new strategy while some others think it is not the best decision. Since its return on January 13, MMM Nigeria has been struggling to gain the confidence of participants who are yet to get back the money they invested in the scheme before it went on one month break in December. Some have lost hope of ever getting their money back while others are still optimistic things will get back to normal.
Some people have killed themselves because they borrowed the money they invested in the money doubling scheme and now it looks like they will not be getting it back.
Recently, a young man, simply known as Adakole, who was about to wed last December drank insecticide following the alleged crash of Ponzi scheme. He passed on Monday evening, February 20, around Kubwa in Bwari Area Council of Abuja.
Senator Ali-modu sheriff set to take over party Secretariat
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, is set to take over the party’s secretariat next week.
This is coming months after the national secretariat was sealed by the police in May 2016, when the leadership tussle of the PDP started.
Sheriff, told journalists in Abuja that he has perfected all legal documents required for the reopening of the secretariat.
He also stated that the party’s convention committee is working toward conducting a national convention that would elect principal officers soon.
After a long leadership tussle that shook the party, a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, on February 17, 2017, declared Senator Sheriff as the party’s national chairman.
The court ruled that the caretaker committee headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi is illegal and cannot act on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The lead Judge, B. A. Sanga, in his judgement said that due process was not followed in the decision by the PDP convention to dissolve the Ali- modu sherrif’s led chairmanship and hence should be disregarded.
